We live in a time that is full of chaos and noise. We can attribute that to our busy schedules as we juggle the roles of a woman – whether wife, mom, sister, or daughter. We can attribute that to the array of technology at our fingertips that can distract us so easily. We can attribute that to the people and circumstances around us that vie for our time, our investment, our emotions. And all of these are certainly factors that contribute to the chaos and noise. But the greatest battle is not fought outside of us, but within our own minds. Here is where the greatest noise occurs…our thoughts, our fears, our plans, our feelings, our ideas, our internal conversations. Here is where the spiritual battle is fought, and here is where we draw closer to or further from God.
This struggle within our minds is not new to us…it has always been the greatest battleground. Think of how many people in Scripture heard the truth, and yet never believed. Their voice and their ideas drowned out the voice of God, and they could not HEAR the truth. Even as believers, we must be aware of this slippery slope…so often we miss what God is saying because we are not listening for His Voice.
I tell my children all the time that if you are talking, it is impossible for you to also be listening. That is true for us as adults as well. Our minds are so full of the “noise” that blocks the voice of God, and to change this we must be purposeful about quieting that noise. Quiet the voice, the conversation, the fears, the emotions, the plans. Quiet and wait expectantly to hear because He is faithful to speak to us. And we will find answers in the silence…from Him.
Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. 21 He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. 22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”
Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
Luke 8:21 But He answered and said to them, “My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.”

Beautiful, Shelli.
