Our vows have been taken. Now husband and wife…this is the beginning of our commitment to one another…our covenant. But as so often is the case, the very life we embark upon together is the very thing that can begin to distract us from one another if we are not diligent. Children, jobs, finances, hardships, interests, other relationships…the list goes on. We make less time for each other…less time to talk, to listen, to share, to celebrate, to cry together. And the less time we take investing in this relationship, the more distant we become. Where once there was intimacy and life, it begins to dry and decay. We begin to lose touch, and as that chasm grows and deepens, so does the intimacy of our knowledge of one another. The reality is that we are still married…however the condition of that marriage is deeply affected by our time spent together.
The moment of our salvation. Of having our eyes opened to the truth of Christ and choosing to give our life to Him, committing ourselves to Him. This decision does not equate to an intimate knowledge of our Lord, but the first step in a journey. His desire is not just that we choose this step, but that we come to know Him intimately. And much like the condition of our marriage, our relationship with God comes to life as we invest in that relationship, as we spend time with Him. Opening up His Word and hearing from Him, coming to Him in prayer, giving thanks and listening to what He has for us, and being obedient to what He calls us to do. Here is where our spirit is nurtured, is matured, is strengthened. Here is where we become ever sensitive to His voice, and here is where we move from knowing ABOUT our Savior to KNOWING Him intimately. As believers, the reality is that we are saved…however the condition of our salvation is deeply affected by our time with Him.
Seek to KNOW Him…
Deuteronomy 6:5
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
2 Peter 3:18
but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen
Jeremiah 29:12-13
Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.
Ephesians 3:17-19
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
